Is it Time to Replace Your Pipes?

Is it Time to Replace Your Pipes?

  • I’m sorry if the title of our blog makes you feel on pins and needles. Just like you, we can only hope your plumbing lasts forever. But there’s only one thing certain when it comes to plumbing problems – it’s bound to happen and often at the most unexpected times! While we wish a simple repair is enough, it’s not always the case. There are certain points where repiping is a more logical and cheaper option.
  •
  • Read on to know the different scenarios where pipe replacement is a more ideal option and what sewer problems can call for pipe replacement.
  • Is it Time to Replace Your Pipes?

Your drains seem to clog all the time – Sewer clogs can happen on random occasions, but if you have trouble flushing your toilet each time, the main sewer line could be to blame. All drains in your home rely on your system down the line to drain things away freely and properly, but when your drains suddenly begin to go out of whack, call a professional for help. With any luck, we might be able to get it fixed by just clearing the clogs. But if the problem is a severe block that has already fractured your pipes, or is too deep for an extensive clearing to help, repiping would be a good option.

You’re constantly paying a plumber for repair – If you’re constantly paying a plumber for a repair, your plumbing is telling you that there’s a bigger problem at hand. Minor problems when continuously undetected or ignored will only compound leading to more problems down the line.

  • Repeated repairs will only drain your money, time, and energy every time so consider getting help from professional plumbers. We can carry out plumbing inspections to determine the root cause of the problem and suggest the best ways to fix it. If we find out the pipe has reached its point of failure, or beyond repair, most likely we will recommend putting a brand-new piping system in place to avoid having to do any further repairs for many years down the road.
  •

Your entire house smells like dead fish – Well I guess that means it doesn’t always smell like flowers in your home. Your plumbing shouldn’t ever smell like anything at all, but when you start to smell dead fish or rotten eggs coming from all the drains in your house, even after repeated cleaning, there could be a leak or clog in your septic or sewer line causing the stench.

  • Sewer and septic line clogs and leaks are difficult to diagnose and require a trained eye to fix. If your toilet is making gurgling sounds and your drains are taking time to drain in addition to the stench, you’re in bad luck for having a sewer line leak. Your sewer could leak because of a number of reasons, but the most common culprit for a failing sewer is tree roots.
  •

Your sewer line is old – Old houses are often cherished because of their charm but they could conceal a host of problems. If your house was built before the 80s, chances are you have galvanized steel or cast-iron pipes in your plumbing. Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever to these pipes too. They could only hold up between 20 to 50 years tops. They become increasingly fragile as they age, making it easy for tree roots to penetrate them, leading to leaks.

  • Unless you’re the original owner of the house, you can do the math and find out if it’s time for you to replace your pipe, but if this is next to possible, call the experts to determine this instead. Old pipes, especially cast-iron and tree-roots do not make good partners, so you may want to replace them before it reaches its point of failure all of a sudden.
  •

Your pipe is severely corroded – Corrosion or rusting in metal pipes doesn’t happen overnight and one thing that is sure to happen. It will affect your drain pipe’s ability to let the water pass through. In essence, water and human waste naturally contain sulfate. When sewage pipe material comes in contact with it, the pipe gives in and corrosion starts to set in, ultimately causing sewer lines to fail. Some types of sewage bacteria are also found to be culprits of sewer pipe corrosion, and you might be surprised to know this, but yes, chemical drain cleaners not only burn holes in your pipes, but they can also augment corrosion.

  • When your sewer line becomes severely corroded or rusted, you will experience frequent clogs and leaks, and your best chance is to set an appointment with our pipe replacement team for repiping.

What scenarios where repiping is a better option?

  •
  • • When damaged pipes are running under good-conditioned soil
  • • Sewer pipe running in the yard with no large sprawling trees covering them
  • • If the depths of your sewer line is not too deep to require much digging
  •
  • While it doesn’t sound exciting to be replacing pipes in the house, sometimes you’ve just gotta bite the bullet and get it done. And when you’re ready, don’t hesitate to call our team. Do not ever attempt to replace sewer pipes yourself. Trust us, we’ve redone way too many failed DIY sewer jobs and it’s not easy. It will just cost you more money than calling us the first time.
  •
  • Make the right decision by calling us now. We can cater to different pipe replacement solutions for you ranging from sewer pipe replacement, drain pipe replacement, PVC pipe replacement, and underground pipe replacement.
