2 Unlikely Tools that Work Magic on Clogged Drains

  • When you find yourself in a clogged drain situation, don’t panic. It happens to the best of us. Clogged drains are an extremely common circumstance in most households, although some are worse than others, many are easy to fix with the right tools. But today, let’s forget the usual and try something else. We’ve listed down a couple of unlikely tools you would’ve never imagined will work magic in unclogging your drains and how to use them.

2 Unlikely Tools that Work Magic on Clogged Drains

  1. 1. Wet/Dry Vacuum Cleaner
  2.
  3. Using a vacuum cleaner may have not really crossed your mind but it is a surprisingly effective way to suck debris and clog out of the pipe. There’s no secret nor magic trick in using vacuum cleaners. You’ll only need a few things. A screwdriver, a wet-dry vacuum, maybe gloves to avoid touching gunks. You will also need to make sure that you have a few old towels around. It will help you in case you spill water and gunk from your drain. Vacs work like a plunger on your clogged up drain, but with even more power and suction. Another thing to take note of when you’re using this machine. As you might get a splash on the process, avoid using it immediately after trying out a chemical drain cleaner.
  1. 1. Take a screwdriver and remove any plate or strainer from the drain. If you don’t use a strainer, that’s undoubtedly the reason why you’re experiencing a clog problem in the first place. All the dirt, debris, hair, etc are going straight down your drains.
  2.
  3. 2. Run the water and allow a little bit to remain. This will help the rag create good suction.
  4.
  5. 3. Dip your rag in the water until it’s completely damp.
  6.
  7. 4. Hook the hose of the vac into the exhaust position. Press the end of your vacuum hose against the drain, while ensuring you have an airtight seal around the nozzle of the vac with the wet rag.
  8.
  9. 5. Turn the vac on for 1 – 2 minutes to allow it to do its job. Don’t be surprised to hear a squeaky hum or whine from the air pressure as the vacuum is trying to break up the clog and a distinct change in the sound of the vacuum’s motor when the obstruction is broken down.
  10.
  11. 6. If it seems like nothing has changed in the drain’s water flow, then you need to switch the air hose to the suck position. As you switch from exhaust to suction position back and forth several times, you’re imitating the pumping action of a plunger, but with greater force.
  12.
  13. 7. When you’re finally done, shut off the vac and gently pull the hose back up so you don’t damage a pipe.
  14.
  15. 8. Run the water to check if you’ve successfully cleared the clogs. If not, repeat the steps. But in awful situations, don’t hesitate to call a blocked drain Sydney professional.
  1. 2. Cola
  2.
  3. Cola soft drinks contain phosphoric acid which gives the beverages a distinct flavour that makes people hooked on the drink. Phosphoric acid is caustic and effective at clearing away buildup in your drains, but it’s way milder than chemical drain cleaners. This lesser-known fix on your clogged drains isn’t as toxic as it sounds, it is made from phosphorus, which is naturally found in many foods. So there’s nothing to worry about, you won’t hurt your drains in the process. It works great on stubborn clogs in the toilet.
  1. 1. Allow a two-litre bottle of soda to come to room temperature.
  2.
  3. 2. Pour the entire bottle down the clogged drain.
  4.
  5. 3. Let it sit in the drain for at least an hour or two and longer for stubborn clogs. It is ideal to do this overnight when no one else will use the drain.
  6.
  7. 4. Flush drain with boiling water and see if the water is starting to empty.
  8.
  9. 5. Run the tap to flush the remaining debris. Repeat as necessary.
  10.
  11. 6. If the cola is unable to work magic on your drains, it may have an obstruction that requires blocked drain repair from professionals rather than just phosphoric acid.

When both fail

  • In a dire situation, you don’t want to keep repeating the process. You will just potentially make the problem worse. Instead, call the blocked drain cleaning Sydney professionals to handle that for you. You can then enjoy the peace of mind knowing someone more capable is taking care of the problem.

Why is calling blocked drain Sydney a better option?

  • Without the experience and tools of a professional plumber, you can’t know exactly what’s causing your plumbing trouble. You might just think that you’re simply clearing a clog when in reality it’s a broken section of the pipe that is causing your plumbing trouble. Keep in mind, for every problem, repair methods will dramatically differ.
