Sewer pipes don’t last forever

1. Even new sewer systems can spring leaks and clog up every now and then, but older systems have a much higher risk. Older systems are sometimes built even before some houses are built. They’re usually made up of outdated materials that are already in their final stage. But the fact that they’re not visible made it more difficult to tell if they’re in good condition or needing repair. You may find it hard to believe but some sewer problems can silently occur and will just give you a shock when it’s at its worst. Take for example a corroded pipe. Many kinds of corrosion can develop in pipelines. Reactions to the substances flowing through pipelines as well as environmental factors such as weather all contribute. When corrosion kicks in, clogs will also surely follow. This is on top of other possible problems discreetly going on in the pipe, such as leaks. When there’s too much for the pipe to handle, it will reach the point of failure.

        Roots and sewer lines don’t make friends

• Tree roots are naturally attracted to the sewer lines because it holds all sources of nutrients they need to grow. Roots can squeeze into tiny cracks and gaps in the pipe and then grow into great lengths over time. Once inside the pipe, roots will make the water unable to flow freely and ultimately cause different kinds of damage. Tree roots intrusion is a difficult thing to catch but it’s fairly common in older houses with mature trees. If left undetected, pipes can collapse and would need to be dug up to repair. Even if you don’t have sprawling trees or large shrubs where your sewer line lies, you should have regular sewer pipe CCTV inspection. Your neighbour’s trees can easily break into your sewer line too. Keep in mind that tree roots can grow even double the height of your trees. So, don’t wait for it to cause damage you’d never imagine. Call the CCTV drain inspection team right away.

        Normal wear and tear happens

• It’s normal for anything that is used on frequent occasions to reach its point of failure. Your drainage system or sewer line is not an exception. It takes wastewater, waste and all types of waste everyday, if you’re not mindful. This makes the pipeline subject to many internal, even external factors that will make it wear away. Pipes have a long life, but they need to be taken care of to make that happen. Just being responsible for what you dump down the drain can go a long way. The sad thing is despite how careful you are when using your plumbing, there are other ways that sewer lines can get damaged that are unpredictable and beyond our control. It’s made even harder in light of the fact that the lines are tucked away underfoot and behind walls.
