Safe steps to deal with clogs right off the bat

Safe steps to deal with clogs right off the bat

  • Usually, when homeowners find themselves with a clogged problem, they usually don’t know what to do but wait for plumbers to come out. However, during this kind of situation it would be critical for homeowners to use a little plumbing ingenuity to avoid water damage before the plumbers arrive, but just be careful that you’re not doing it wrong, or we will have to tie up loose ends for you. That means, your repair cost can go higher if you’d rather mess up than solve the problem. If you don’t want that to happen, read the steps below on how to safely deal with clogs right off the bat.

Safe steps to deal with clogs right off the bat

  • STEP 1: Use your plunger to try clearing the clogs first
  •
  • Where there’s a drain, there’s likely a plunger and they come in really handy when you need them for clogs. If you don’t have one tucked away near your plumbing, take a quick trip to any local chain store in your area. They’re pretty cheap but they work magic on clogs that aren’t stubborn enough. Just make sure to buy the right one. If you’re fixing a clogged kitchen sink, find a shallow-domed plunger, or a standard cup plunger. It has a fairly flat bottom rim that works on a flat surface. You can also buy the all-purpose one, the flange-type plungers with tall domes and flanges at the bottom that you can extend for toilets and bend to use in flat surfaces like tubs and sinks.
  •
  • Plungers are really life-savers when it comes to simple clogs. So, before you call a plumber and waste money on something that you might just be able to sort out yourself, give your plunger a try first.
  •
  • Directions to use:
  •
  • Position your plunger with the dome down, while ensuring a reliable seal on the drain opening’s mouth for better suction. Then, work your way to pump the clog. Give it a good thrust to make sure you’d be able to clear the clog away. If your attempt didn’t change anything, don’t force it. Be sensitive to what your instinct tells you. If you feel it’s something you can handle, but not using a plunger, proceed to step 2, otherwise, call the drainage experts like the drain relining Sydney professionals. They’d be able to fix clogs without hit and miss.
  •
  • STEP 2: DIY when possible
  •
  • If you want to save on plumbing repair costs, you can jump onto this step when your plungers didn’t work or if you’re more comfortable using some home remedy. There are no special skills required in this step but just your ability to follow directions. You also don’t need to buy costly materials to get on, but just your kitchen ingredients will do. Prepare a measuring cup, baking soda, liquid dish soap, salt, and boiling water. Before you get started, make sure to empty up your drains. You can use a dipper to scoop up the water.
  •
  • Directions to use:
  •
  • Heat 2 cups of boiling water on a stovetop. While waiting to boil, squirt a bit of liquid dish soap into the drain. The dish soap will help dissolve greasy clogs. Pour a cup of boiling water into the drains, and save the rest later. Pour a cup of baking soda, followed by an equal amount of salt. You can use a funnel to do this if you have smaller drain openings. Wait for 5 minutes then flush it with the remaining boiling water. If the drain is now flowing, run hot tap water to flush all debris down the drain. If it is not draining, repeat the steps. However, if you feel like you’ve already done enough but nothing changed, you can give your plunger a try, maybe it will work. But after repeated steps and it seems like the drain is still having a hard time emptying out, proceed to step 3.
  •
  • Step 3: Advise the drain experts right away
  •
  • Using a plunger and homemade solutions are undoubtedly safe. Anyone can use it as long as you’re comfortable dealing with some mess and don’t mind having a splash on you. But, the tricky part is, though you’ve followed our instructions, you still don’t know if the clog you’re trying to clear away is really just near the drain’s opening, or it’s all the way down the line. To avoid wasting time and energy, let the drain pipe relining professionals know your problem right away when nothing changed after giving the steps above a shot.
