I can only speak for our own installations here. No, the roots will not bust their way through the liner as there are no joints. 95% of the time tree roots enter earthenware or PVC pipes through cracked joints.
We use a strong 4-5mm liner that has a little bit of flex to withstand ground movement and pressure from large tree roots growing under or over the pipe. It is tree-root proof!
Many customers are concerned about the reduction in pipe size after relining. I can guarantee that you have nothing to worry about, most liners once coated with resin and cured have a wall thickness of 4-8mm depending on which liner is used.
However, the pipe is then smoother and has no joints which will increase the flow rate in your pipes.

If junctions are relined over we reinstate them by means of mechanical or robotic cutting devices. In simple terms, we send drilling and sanding equipment down the lines and cut the junction back out. If that junction is tree root affected a junction patch must be installed to stop tree roots re-entering the line and to comply with Australian standards.
Pipe relining has a life expectancy of over 50 years. It’s been around since the 70’s so there has been plenty of time for test and measure.
Much like the pipe relining cost, there are many factors to consider here. The main things you need to think about is the location of the pipes, cost, time and mess.
Location of pipes: If its just grass above the pipes then digging them up may be a more affordable option. However, if the pipes run under a concrete slab, your house, fence, pool, pond a nice garden, the street etc then you will find pipe relining a more convenient option.
Cost: The price to reline can be lower or higher than replacing the pipes depending on what’s above them and how deep they are in the ground. Eg if you need to cut up your driveway to replace the pipes, the price for pipe replacement and a new driveway will be far higher than pipe relining.
Time: Is the job time-sensitive? Will having tradesmen at the property for days or weeks be an issue? If you would like the job done fast (in many cases 1 day) then pipe relining is a faster more efficient process.
Mess: Digging up and replacing pipes is a messy business, the trench will be dug and all the dirt/plants/concrete/pipes etc will be placed on the ground above it. With pipe relining there is generally either no digging or a small access point will be dug to gain access to the pipe.
